So I was having such a blast updating all my images and getting such fantastic feedback. Then I got up this morning and checked, only to find a comment on one of my Flesh Portraits that (simply) stated "horrible". Now I don't know whether this person was referring to the quality of the work or the content or something else entirely. But still. All I have to say is, I understand the importance of critique, and that not everyone will always love my work. Due to its confrontational nature, my work sometimes creates unpleasant responses. I understand this. I went through five years of an intensive, brutally honest, Fine Arts degree. There is no way that I could escape criticism, no matter how unpleasant, or how much I didn't want to hear it. HOWEVER. If you are going to respond in a critical way, it is absolutely imperative that you qualify your statement with a valid, CONSTRUCTIVE critique. If you are not prepared to do this, then all I have to say is that you should fuck off and get your head out of your asshole. Submitting rude comments purely based on your own personal taste and with no constructive basis whatsoever is hurtful not only to artists, who work hard to respect others and expect others to treat them with the same respect, but also to those models who are the subjects of the artwork. Again, I'm not saying that if you have a critique that you shouldn't voice it. That doesn't help anyone either. But critique is intended to help make the art better, not make the artist feel worse. All I ask is that you think before you write. Please.
